Freelance Associate Creative Director, Copy


The ACD, Copy supports and assists the Creative Communications Director with development, execution, and maintenance of the creative vision for all assigned clients and brands. Partnering with other creative functional areas, the ACD, Copy manages, guides and cultivates creative solutions by executing creative strategies. The ACD, Copy supervises, mentors and helps develop copywriting team members. The ACD, Copy also shares writing responsibilities to help manage the day-to-day workload.

Marketing Responsibilities

  • Oversight of the creative output for all brands handled by functional area
  • Works in partnership with the Creative Communications Director and other associate creative directors to ensure quality of ideation and execution of all work across assigned brands
  • Partners with account management, project management and other functional areas of the Creative Communications Team on project deliverables and objectives
  • Crafts superior promotional copy, including messaging, concepts and campaigns
  • Has the strategic acumen to refine creative briefs with input from Creative Communications Director, account management and account planning
  • Creative leadership and team management skills
  • Leads cross-department conceptual efforts
  • Takes a key role in developing and presenting new business pitches
  • Sets and reinforces standards for creative excellence across the creative team
  • Serves as a senior creative lead for the extended agency team
  • Takes a leadership role on team strategic and tactical planning
  • Partners with Studio and MarTech to establish and maintain the highest possible standards of execution for all materials across all media
  • Evaluates creative ideation and execution
  • Provides perspective for enhancement of team skill sets and expertise
  • Provides regular feedback and encourages professional development amongst team
  • Responsible for team utilization, workflow and issue management
  • Proactively assesses processes and people for improvement; anticipates and intervenes to prevent potential issues

Team Responsibilities

  • Work with Human Resources in recruiting process of new team members. Provide new hire overview of creative functions
  • Provide oversight and direction to creative team members in accordance with Midan policies and procedures
  • Coach, mentor and develop team members, including onboarding for new team members and providing career development planning and opportunities
  • Empower team members to take responsibility for their jobs. Delegate responsibilities and expect accountability and regular feedback
  • Foster a spirit of teamwork and unity among team that allows for disagreement over ideas, conflict and expeditious conflict resolution and the appreciation of diversity as well as cohesiveness, supportiveness and working effectively together to enable the success of each team member and the team as a whole
  • Consciously create a workplace culture that is consistent with Midan’s mission, vision, guiding principles and values
  • Lead team members using a performance management and development process that provides an overall context and framework to encourage contribution and includes goal setting, feedback and performance development planning. In conjunction with the creative communications director, develop digital team goals annually and monitor team individual goals quarterly
  • Maintain team member work schedules including assignments, training, vacation and other paid time off, telecommuting and cover for absenteeism
  • Maintain transparent communication. Appropriately communicate Midan information through team meetings, one-on-one meetings, email, instant messaging and regular interpersonal communication
  • In conjunction with the creative communications director, manage overall operational, budgetary and financial responsibilities and activities for the team
  • Plan and allocate staffing and financial resources effectively to meet team and Midan goals
  • Communicate regularly with other members of management team

Education, Training and Network

  • Undergraduate degree (BA or BS)
  • 10+ years of professional writing experience in a related field
  • 7+ years of agency experience
  • Experience supervising a senior copy team
  • Experience Supervising cross-functional teams (MarTech, PR, Promotion, etc.)
  • New business pitch experience both development and pitching
  • Recipient of awards for creative excellence
  • Candidates will be required to submit a portfolio of best work.
