Natural Meats Brand Specialist

The Brand Specialist has dual reporting to both Midan Marketing and our client.

This position is imbedded with our client with the primary focus of supporting the sales of a natural beef and pork program. The successful candidate will work across functions – retail sales, marketing, broker management, category management, and retail merchandising to stimulate sustainable growth of the brand. The Brand Specialist will make recommendations on sales approach, customer presentations, marketing plans, product mix and merchandising based on their understanding of the retailer and the natural category. He or She will manage the day-to-day relationship with the client sales team including prioritizing requests, identifying and selling the brand, creating marketing and merchandising opportunities, and troubleshooting barriers to sales.

Specific Responsibilities

1. Provide subject matter expertise to the client sales team (field sales and inside sales representatives)

a. ABF/NAH (Antibiotic-free/No Added Hormones) consumer
b. ABF/NAH industry
c. Category market data
d. Brand attributes
e. Program specifications
f. Competitive programs
g. B2Cand B2B Marketing

2. Support Field Sales Team on sales calls to conquer the stronghold market(s)

a. Customize sell-in deck with customer-specific data
b. Facilitate follow up post-presentation
3. Develop and execute in-market and in-store launches
a. Point-of-Sale sets and validations
b. Create customer-specific activities
4. Develop and execute program launches correlating with new customer acquisitions
5. Conduct category reviews quarterly per branded customer
a. Refine product mix and merchandising approach to maximize brand performance
6. Develop and execute product ad calendar
a. Work closely with business managers to identify gaps in carcass utilization and develop plan to address
b. Support NAE P&L (cutout performance)
7. Other work as directed

Qualifications

Five years’ experience in retail sales or marketing in Meat, Food or other Consumer Packaged Goods
Industry; natural meat sales experience preferred
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong research and analytical skills
In-depth understanding of the retail sales cycle
In-depth understanding of the natural category
A willingness to listen
Ability to think creatively and innovatively
Budget-management skills and proficiency
Professional judgment and discretion that comes from years of experience in the field
Analytical skills to forecast and identify trends and challenges
Presentation skills

Education, Training and Network

BS degree in Marketing or Agriculture or other related field OR related work experience
Experience working in perishables, grocery, meat packing or meat sales preferred
